I have been working in healthcare for 15 years.
Since starting as a med student, and taking different roles and responsibilities until I became a practice owner myself, I have learned a lot about what it takes to grow an independent medical practice. And by far, the easiest way to acquire new patients, is through referrals. Commonly known as “word of mouth”, it’s what every doctor wants more of.
Unfortunately, most doctors simply “hope” for word-of-mouth to happen when in fact, you can engineer it to happen more frequently.
Here are 3 simple ways to do it:
- Track your referrers.
- Encourage more referrals.
- Recognize or reward (where appropriate) referrers.
If you think you are already doing these things, ask yourself how can you make it easier for your colleagues or patients to refer to you.
Is this something you’d like me to explore further? Let me know in the comments or via DM.
