Since 2016, I have spoken to hundreds of doctors about starting an online business.

And every single one of them has had at least one idea for an online course, an ebook, a podcast, or a membership site. By the time we talk, they have read blogs, watched YouTube videos, and even bought courses teaching them how to do it. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 they don’t make it past the idea phase.

Here are the top 3 reasons why your ideas are not becoming a digital product:

Reason #1: You’re too attached to the outcome

When you are starting out, your goal should be to get good at doing it.

Give yourself permission to suck at first. As long as you’re putting in the reps, you’re making progress. I know you want to help people and make money out of this but, when your expectations are too high, you become so afraid of failure that you never start.

Reason #2: You fall in love with your ideas, not with your client.

As an entrepreneur you must be obsessed about solving a problem for your ideal client.

Yet most first time entrepreneurs become obsessed with their idea. You believe with every bone in your body it is exactly what your audience needs. But when you go out and start talking to people about it, they don’t “get it”.

And if they don’t “get it”, they won’t buy it either.

Reason #3: You have no accountability

When things get hard (and it will!) your mind tricks you into thinking you’re not ready.

So you begin doing things that feel safe. Things like reading on what you want to create. Buying a course about it. Signing up for yet another platform. Or simply putting it in the back-burner.

The difference between those who make their idea a reality and those who are always planning, is the former follow through.

Here’s the thing: some people are doers.

They just naturally follow through with whatever they set their sights on. They’re the ones who say “it’s better done than perfect.” I often wish I could be like that. But I’m not.

And since you’re still reading this essay, chances are you’re not either.

Fortunately, there’s a solution. You just need external accountability. If you would like to explore what it would be like to work with me as your coach, keeping you on track, accountable, and making your ideas a reality, slide in my DMs on Twitter or LinkedIn and let’s talk.
