Writer’s block is when you’re sitting in front of a blank page, staring at it, not knowing what to write.

Sometimes you have an idea but can’t come up with a headline. And other times you can’t even come up with a topic to write about! It makes you wonder whether you’re cut out for this whole “writing thing”.

But what if I told you there’s no such thing as “writer’s block”?

According to 7x NYT best-selling author Neil Strauss, writer’s block is simply the result of placing too high expectations on your writing.

He claims you struggle not because you can’t come up with ideas but because the ideas you are coming up with are not deemed “good enough” by your ego. So, if you just lower your standards, you’ll be able to grab one of those “crappy” ideas and write about it. Or if you already have an idea but can’t seem to get going, don’t aim for an article. Aim for an atomic essay (like this one!).

Suddenly the task is not as daunting, is it?
