Have you ever wondered why self-employed physicians do not seem to burnout nearly as often as their employed counterparts?

I’ve been a fractional CMO for independent medical practices and a physician coach for more than 7 years and the reason most employed physicians dislike their jobs is lack of autonomy. If you are employed, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Nobody likes it, but it’s near impossible to leave a high paying job!

I agree, it is. Unless you do it little by little.

And the best way to start is by building your own personal brand. In this essay I’ll share with you the 3 steps you need to take –today– even if you are happy and not planning to leave your job:

    1. Your own domain

Owning yourname.com is the simplest, most obvious way to start building your personal brand online, yet most doctors I speak to don’t have theirs!

Don’t let this be you. If you don’t yet have your own domain, go now to namecheap.com and buy it. The price for a domain is about $10 per year and you can usually get the first year for much less than that. So go do it now, I’ll wait.

By the way, if you want to be fancy, buy a few variations of your name. You can then redirect them to the main one. For example, I own drernestomd.com, drernesto.com, and ernestogutierrezmd.com.

    2. Your own website – separate from your practice’s

Now that you have your own domain, it’s time to point it to a website.

If you want to create a full website, the gold standard is still WordPress. And there’s no better way to do it than with WP-Engine. Plans start at $20/month.

But if that’s too much, you should at least get a simple, one-page website. And nobody does those better than Carrd.co. Go check them out today.

    3. A way to connect with YOU

The most important function of your website is not to display your bio, CV and accolades.

It is to give your visitors a place where they can connect with you online. Sure, your social media profiles should be available, but my favorite is allowing them to contact you in a manner where you collect their contact information and start building your email list. Follow the directions in your website builder to add a contact form and have it easily accessible.

    💡

Ideally, you’ll want to have a lead magnet and a simple optin to make lead generation more effective.

Even if you are happy in your job and not planning to start your own business, I want to encourage you to follow these steps.

It’s not expensive to do, does not take up a lot of time, and there’s no downside to doing it.
